Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?
My name is Bill. I've been a Mets for about as long ago as I can remember - 1975.
Why are you doing this?
I really wanted to go to opening day at the new stadium in 2009, I wanted to lock in tickets for future years, and I planned to be in NYC all summer. I planned to sell about 50 games of tickets.

When I learned that I would not be in the city all summer, I decided to sell about 70 games.

When I went to sell the tickets, I realized that I was part of the problem. So, I dreamed this up.

When I learned that I would not be able to be at opening day - :) - I set up the opening day promotion.

I had so much fun with this in 2009 (and a lot of hard work and a little frustration), that I decided to bring it back.
Who gets tickets?
The person with the most votes will not always be the next one to be scheduled for a game. There are two ways that someone may receive tickets.

If we have a set of tickets to give away and we have time to schedule the game, we will contact only the person with the most votes and give them 24 hours to respond. If they do not respond, the offer will be opened to the next 24 people on the list - the first one to respond who is able to get the tickets from us (via electronic transfer, messenger, or otherwise) will get the tickets.

If we have a set of tickets to give away at the last minute, we will contact the top 25 vote getters - the first one to respond who is able to get the tickets from us (via electronic transfer, messenger, or otherwise) will get the tickets.
How can you afford to do this?
I can't! Please donate so we can keep this project alive.
Are you doing this to make money?
No. It would be easier to sell the tickets on eBay or StubHub.

I am prepared to lose some on this, but I have received a lot of requests to donate tickets and I suspect that we can continue this in future years. Ideally, I could get most of my investment back and see the tickets go to people who really want them. I have no idea if this will work out.

My out of pocket expense in 2009 was in the thousands of dollars, but we were able to send many people to games. My goal this year is to give away almost 80 games!
What if you raise more money than you need?
We are planning to use all donated funds (minus PayPal fees) to purchase tickets. If we cover all the games we need this season, we can save for next.

We've also talked about donating any "overages" for Leukemia & Lymphoma research.
Is my donation tax deductible?
I have very little legal training but I am going to say no.
How many tickets are you going to give away?
That has not been decided. I would love to be able to give away the tickets for 80 games but I am waiting to see how donations flow in.
In 2009 you allowed for donations to certain individuals. Why did you do away with that?
We thought that more votes might come in if we allowed users to vote without donating. If you'd like to donate and vote, you can do that.
What happens if the person for whom I donate does not receive enough donations?
Right now I plan to send those with the most donations and I reserve the right to limit the amount of tickets given out to keep from losing my shirt on this.
Can I just donate to the cause without "voting?"
Absolutely! That will actually help fund this project in a big way - and simplify the decisions I need to make. Donate Here.
Will you accept sponsorships?
Actually, it seems as though I cannot do this without permission from the New York Mets. If you are interested, let me know and we can work out the details.
With so many "undecideds," will my donation go to waste?
Absolutely not! Your donation will be used to send someone to a game.
